Bruce made an immediate impact in senior showjumping ranks, winning the Horse of the Year title in 1988 when just 18 years old. He went on to finish second at the prestigious Spruce Meadows event in Canada in 1991, and has attended three Olympics Games – in 1992, 2000 and 2004. He was the manager of Showjumping New Zealand’s sole competitor at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. On the British and European circuits, he was first in the 1998 Wembley HOY grand prix and second in the 1999 Lisbon CSIO grand prix. He was in first equal place after the first individual qualification at the Sydney Olympics.
