Aaron Gate emerged through the junior ranks, winning a bronze medal in the team pursuit at the junior world championships in South Africa in 2008.

He joined the high performance squad in 2010, finishing just out of the medals at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi before winning a bronze medal in the team pursuit at the London Olympics.
