The Commonwealth Games returned to New Zealand in 1974, this time in Christchurch. The Opening Ceremony was held at QEll Park on January 24th, with the Games the first ever colour television broadcast in New Zealand. The home Games were extremely successful for New Zealand and we’ll bring you some of the highlights over the next few days!

At Edinburgh 1970 Les Mills continued his dominance on the field with two more Commonwealth Games medals. Les won silver in the discus and bronze in the shotput. It was Les’ fourth Commonwealth Games.
